A seminar on the cultural foundation of Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy, which also marked the release of a book focusing on people-to-people exchanges between China and the world, was held in Beijing on March 19.
The event was organized by the Academy of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era at Renmin University of China. More than 10 experts and/or scholars attended, and they discussed the theories and viewpoints advanced in the book.
The book analyzes the theoretical and practical issues of people-to-people exchanges, from the aspects of political systems, religion, history, culture, and national character, and the book provides constructive suggestions on how to promote public diplomacy in the era of big data, in the post-epidemic era, and in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative.
The experts and scholars who attended the book's release agreed the book systematically presents China's strategies and experiences in promoting people-to-people exchanges, and provides important theoretical support and practical guidance for enhancing mutual understanding and cooperation in the international community.

Author Wang Yiwei, professor and vice-president of the academy, said closer people-to-people ties is a global phenomenon, and is the key to solving global problems facing humanity. Using his rich experiences in international exchanges as examples, he explained the role of the unique value of Chinese culture in promoting people-to-people exchanges, and he underlined the importance of combining academic research and practice in the book.
Wang stressed women "hold up half the sky" in strengthening people-to-people connectivity, and women can play an even greater role than holding up "half the sky."
He pointed out that women, as a major force in fostering closer people-to-people ties, can help solve some difficult and rigid problems if they give full play to their strengths. Women have unique perspectives and understandings in various areas, including artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, and they also play a significant role in education, environmental protection, and various other fields.
He said the contributions and practices of Chinese women in promoting people-to-people exchanges, as well as inspiring more women globally to foster closer people-to-people ties, are worthy of better exploration in the future.
